Barcelona is a beautiful city with plenty to explore, but if you’re looking to escape the crowds and explore more of Catalonia, there are plenty of great day trips just a short train or bus ride away. From picturesque coastal towns to stunning mountain landscapes, here are five day trips from Barcelona you won’t want to miss.


1. Montserrat




Montserrat is a stunning mountain range just an hour outside of Barcelona, and it’s home to a monastery that’s been in operation for over 1000 years. The views from the top are incredible, and there are plenty of hiking trails and rock formations to explore. You can also visit the museum and sample local cheeses and wine.


2. Sitges




Sitges is a charming coastal town just 30 minutes from Barcelona. It’s known for its beautiful beaches, quaint streets lined with shops and restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. If you’re looking to relax and soak up some sun, this is the perfect day trip.


3. Girona



Girona is a historic city just an hour from Barcelona, and it’s known for its well-preserved medieval architecture. The city’s most famous landmark is the Cathedral of Santa Maria, which dates back to the 11th century. There are also plenty of museums, galleries, and restaurants to explore.


4. Tarragona



Tarragona is another coastal town about an hour from Barcelona, and it’s known for its Roman ruins. You can explore the amphitheater, aqueduct, and other ancient structures, or simply stroll around the charming old town and enjoy the views of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Costa Brava is a stunning stretch of coastline just north of Barcelona. It’s known for its crystal-clear waters, hidden coves, and dramatic cliffs. There are plenty of small towns and fishing villages to explore, as well as hiking trails and boat tours.
